Waymo's Self-Driving Taxis Planned for London Streets Next Year.
The US-based enterprise Waymo has declared that its driverless cabs will be available for use on London's roads beginning next year.

The UK capital will emerge as the first European city to host an driverless taxi service, akin to those currently in use in multiple US cities and several American locations employing Waymo's innovative systems.
Preliminary Trials to Begin with Safety Drivers.
Waymo announced that its fleet are now traveling to London and will start driving on the city's roads in the next few weeks with trained human specialists in control.
The company – initially formed as a derivative from Google's autonomous vehicle program and belonging to the same parent group – explained it would increase operations and partner with the Department for Transport and Transport for London to acquire the essential approvals to offer totally self-driving trips by 2026.

Additional companies, such as Uber and the British tech company Wayve, have also declared their own intentions to pilot driverless vehicles in the capital next year.

A more extensive rollout of autonomous vehicles is expected in the UK after the new law is fully implemented in late 2027.

Waymo presently has connections to the UK after launching its pioneering European engineering hub in Oxford in 2019.
The company is furthermore launching offerings in Tokyo using Jaguar Land Rover eco-friendly cars, marking its sole additional present operation beyond the US.
