E-commerce platforms such as Shein, Temu, AliExpress and Wish are now being probed in the French Republic for the charge of allowing minors to obtain pornographic content on their websites, the prosecutor's office in Paris stated on this Tuesday.

The nation's regulatory body had flagged the four firms to the prosecution service on this past Sunday after raising alarms about the availability of childlike adult toys on their online marketplace in recent days.

The French judicial officials clarified that the online services are being examined over harmful, pornographic or inappropriate material that can be viewed by minors.

AliExpress asserted that it considers the matter extremely earnestly. The other retailers have also been reached out to for their perspective.

Broader Probes and Platform Reactions

These platforms are also being examined over the distribution of information concerning minors that are of a pornographic character, the authorities revealed.

The cases have been passed to the French minor protection office, the prosecution service noted. This unit is an section of the law enforcement that oversees the protection of underage individuals.

AliExpress asserted that the listings in concern contravened its rules and were taken down once it was informed of them.

"Merchants found to violate or seeking to circumvent these standards will be penalised in compliance with our rules," AliExpress stated in a release.

On this Monday, Shein said it had outlawed the marketing of every adult toys on its marketplace globally. The Singapore-based retailer also said that it would terminate all merchant IDs related to the unlawful distribution of the youth-resembling products and enforce tighter measures on its service.

Consumer Watchdog Observations and Wider Scenario

The national consumer agency, the DGCCRF, had said that the sex dolls' product information and categorisation left "minimal uncertainty as to the child pornography character" of the merchandise.

The investigation of Shein coincides with the firm, which was started in the People's Republic of China, prepares for the inauguration on Wednesday of its maiden permanent physical outlet in the French Republic.

Protesters have been seen assembled in front of the Paris retail outlet where Shein is set to establish the outlet.

The firm intends to inaugurate shops in additional French retail chains in locations including these regional hubs.
