Aircraft Twirls Wildly into Palm Groves at Popular Southern California Coast
A helicopter soaring above a popular California shoreline suddenly started spinning out of control, finally losing altitude and crashing into a line of palm fronds as spectators observed.
Videos posted on social media show the chopper commencing to spiral near Huntington Beach then plunging near the edge of the coast, where it becomes wedged between palms and a steps near the coastal road.
First Aid Update
The Huntington Beach fire department reported five individuals were rushed to the hospital including a pair who were in the helicopter and were “rescued from the debris” after the crash on that day.
Three people on the road were injured. Specifics on their injuries were not yet released.
The reason for the accident was still under investigation.
Planned Function
The department said the helicopter was associated with an annual “Cars with Copters” fundraising event planned for the following day.
